Paul Jones was the son of the equestrian artist Samuel John Egbert Jones (fl. 1820-1849) and the brother of the artist Charles Jones. He is believed to have lived in London and became well known for his sporting scenes of game dogs. Many of his paintings were executed in small dimensions with a careful attention to detail, as in this fine example.
The painting is housed in its original period gilt frame which is in excellent condition.
