Edwin Hughes was born on 3 February, 1851 in Westminster, the son of William Hughes a picture dealer. He also exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Oils, Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham, Walker Art Gallery and the Manchester City Art Gallery. He died in Hammersmith in 1915. His figures are well drawn, showing a keen observation for human nature.
