From 1863, he studied at the Weimar Art School under Arthur Georg von Ramberg (1819- 1875), Ferdinand Pauwels (1830-1904) and Albert Brendel (1827- 1895). He exhibited at the Berlin Academy as well as in Dresden, Hamburg and Vienna between 1866 and 1887.
