Robert  Watson
British, (1865-1916)

Highland Cattle by a Loch
Oil on canvas, signed & dated 1918
15.5 inches x 23.5 inches

Robert Watson was a landscape artist who specialised in painting Highland scenes. He was born in Warboys, Cambridgeshire into a family of highland landscape painters. Later on, he lived in Southport, Lancashire and also Elswick near Newcastle upon Tyne. He exhibited in Glasgow and Liverpool. There was much demand for Watson’s work as Scottish scenes were very fashionable in the late nineteenth century, in part due to Queen Victoria’s visits to Balmoral. His works are always highly detailed and capture the raw essence and atmosphere of the Highlands.
