Hermine Gartner was a portrait painter who was born in Austria in 1846. She also worked under the pseudonym of Antonius Hermann. Gartner specialised in portraits of Bavarian men in taverns or at home in a style similar to that of Franz Xavier Wolfe, Gustave Kohler and Hugo Kotschenreiter. Her works are meticulously painted with a wonderful intensity to the light and atmosphere.
