Émile Gallé was a French artist who became well known for his glass work and was a leading light in the Art Nouveau movement. He learned the art of glass making in Meisenthal before returning to work in Nancy at his father’s factory. There he perfected his technique of carving and etching opaque glass with botanic designs in two or more colours, known as cameo glass.
